Hippeastrum ‘Picotee’
An award-winning classic, Hippeastrum ‘Picotee’ is admired for its large, crisp white blooms delicately edged in red. Flowering for weeks – sometimes months – throughout winter and into spring, it brings light and elegance indoors at a time when gardens are resting. Its exceptional quality has earned it the Royal Horticultural Society’s prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
Ideal for brightening your home when fresh cut flowers are scarce, this variety is both striking and easy to grow. Plant the bulbs in autumn for blooms 7–10 weeks later. Use a snug pot with no more than 1cm between the bulb and the edge, filled with free-draining, gritty compost. Position the bulb so the top third remains above the compost surface to protect the growing point from rot. Water sparingly until growth appears, then keep evenly moist, applying a liquid feed every two weeks during active growth.
One Hippeastrum ‘Picotee’ makes a refined statement; three together create an unforgettable display.
The bulbs are ideal for winter or early spring flowering and pair beautifully with indoor Narcissi such as Paperwhites. They can also be incorporated into seasonal arrangements for an elegant festive display.
