Narcissus ‘Thalia’

Narcissus ‘Thalia’ is a classic and enduringly popular white daffodil, celebrated for its graceful form and delicate scent. This tough variety features multi-headed stems that carry ivory white flowers with prominent trumpets and slender, slightly reflexed outer petals, creating a simple and refined silhouette. It pairs beautifully with tulips or stands out on its own, meandering through woodland-type borders in partial shade, where it illuminates understorey plantings. ‘Thalia’ readily naturalises to form large drifts through borders or grass and is equally well-suited to pot planting. Blooming a little later than other daffodil varieties, it fills the gap between spring bulbs and the start of summer perennials.

Growing Information

Daffodil and narcissus bulbs are easy to establish in any moist, well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs in full sun or semi-shade at a depth of approximately 10 cm (4") and at a distance of 10 cm (4") apart. Narcissus and daffodils look particularly eye-catching when grown as drifts in borders or informal areas of grass. For a natural effect, cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land.

For an attractive indoor display, plant daffodils and narcissus in containers of bulb fibre and position them in a cool, well-ventilated, dark place at a maximum temperature of 10°C (50°F). Water sparingly to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 10 cm (4"), move the containers to a cool, bright position indoors (approximately 16°C or 60°F).
